House Rules

🚿

Water Heater

Important: The water heater should be switched off when the villa is unoccupied for more than a few hours. This is a standard practice in Greece and saves electricity significantly.

To turn the water heater ON

Locate the switch
[Describe location — e.g., "The water heater switch is on the wall panel in the utility room, second from the left. It is labelled 'Boiler' / 'Θερμοσίφωνας'."]
Flip the switch to ON
[Describe the switch — e.g., "Flip up" or "Turn clockwise" or "Press the red button."]
Wait for the water to heat
The water heater typically takes [30–45 minutes] to fully heat the tank. A small indicator light on the switch will glow when it is heating.
Ready to use
Once warm, hot water will be available at all taps and showers. You can leave the heater on throughout your stay.

To turn the water heater OFF

Return to the same switch
The same panel in the [utility room / location].
Flip to OFF
The indicator light will go out. Hot water already in the tank will remain warm for several hours.
Tip: If you are out for the day and want hot water on return, switch the heater on about 45 minutes before you expect to be back.
❄️

Air Conditioning

Please: Never leave the air conditioning running with windows or doors open, and switch all units off when leaving the villa.
Units

[Describe the AC units — e.g., "There is a split-unit AC in the main bedroom and one in the living area. Both are operated by remote control stored on top of each unit."] A recommended temperature for sleeping is 24–26°C — the Kefalonia nights are often cool enough to leave it off entirely after midnight.

🍳

Appliances

🔥 Hob / Cooker

[Gas or electric? Describe how to ignite if gas — e.g., "Turn the knob to 'ignite' and hold for 3 seconds until the flame catches."]

🧺 Washing Machine

[Brand and model if helpful. Describe basic operation — e.g., "Detergent in the left drawer. Press Eco 40° for most loads. Cycle takes ~90 minutes."]

☕ Coffee

[Describe what's available — Nespresso, stovetop moka pot, filter machine, etc. Note where pods/coffee/filters are stored.]

📺 TV

[Describe how to use the TV — input source, smart TV login, Netflix, etc. Note where the remote is kept.]

🌀 Dishwasher

[If present: describe tablet location, where to add salt/rinse aid, and which program to run normally.]

🔌 Other

[Add any other appliance notes — BBQ, outdoor shower, garden hose, roof access, safe, etc.]

♻️

Rubbish & Recycling

[Describe the rubbish collection situation — e.g., "General waste goes in the large green wheelie bin on the street. Bins are collected on [Monday, Wednesday, and Friday] mornings. Recycling (plastic, glass, paper) goes in the blue bin. Please break down cardboard boxes before placing them in the bin."]

Glass: There is a bottle bank for glass at [location, e.g., "the car park at the end of the street"]. Please do not put glass in the blue recycling bin.

🍽 Recommended Tavernas

[Your personal favourites — 2–3 places you'd send friends to. Include a note on what makes each special.]

🚗 Car Rental

[A reliable local car hire contact, if you have one. A car is more or less essential for the beaches.]

💱 ATMs

🌊 Best Beach Tip

Myrtos is best in the morning — it faces west, so it gets shade in the afternoon. Antisamos is more sheltered and better for swimming with kids.

A personal note: Kefalonia rewards slow travel. Don't try to see everything — pick two or three beaches, spend long mornings at the market, and stay for sunset at least once. The Loggerhead turtles in the harbour are best seen around dusk, right from the waterfront. Enjoy every moment.
